Led by Artist/Songwriter//Youth Advocate, Tarik “Konshens” Davis, the TOTO workshop works through Presenting problems of oppression that are relevant to youth in an at-tempt to build solidarity and generate community action. Through the use of Artistic Expression, participants will identify collective strategies for personal/community change, violence prevention, conflict resolution and Teambuilding. Students will also use storytelling as a means of shift-ing mindsets and shaping realities in a positive light. While encouraging the values of love, peace, acceptance, and positivity through personal expression. Can be offered as a supplement and/or alternative to Advisory Block classes
Led by international organization and community partner, The Swaliga Foundation, STEAM the Block is a series of workshops designed to facilitate students’ curiosity in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM). Workshop series will also promote workforce development strategy, as well as pro-vide students with information on future STEAM careers and resources tofurther pursue alternate, postsecondary, and vocational training options. Can be offered as a supplement and/or alternative to Science classes.
Led by the Beat Ya Feet Finest, this work-shop will use Go-Go, the indigenous music and dance culture of DC, to offer students an outlet for physical activity, while addressing themes of teambuilding, creative expression, and conflict resolution. Can be offered as a supplement and/or alternative to Physical Eduction and/or DC History classes.
This is an early childhood celebration of learn-ing, led by Baba Ras D, veteran educator and performing artist. Baba Ras D is pleased to offer this interactive program for children to explore, express their voice, dance, play drums and percussion instruments, shout, or sing-along to songs that build character, confidence and com-munity. Baba Ras D's "Harambee" will be a source of inspiration for chil-dren and their caregivers.
In a workshop session that feels much like a morning at the local barbershop, students will dis-cuss sexual health and hygiene, and have an opportunity to get all of their questions answered by a licensed physician or health professional. Topics to be included will be: healthy sexual relationships, HIV and STI prevention, proper hygiene, grooming, and the characteristics and re-sponsibilities of manhood. Three barbers will also be a part of the sessionto provide grooming tips and techniques. Can be offered as a supplement and/or alternative to Health classes
(for Honor Roll assemblies, whole school gatherings, and more.)
